Tune into 5FM on weekdays between 2 and 3am and you’ll get an earful of Angela Guastella. With aspirations of becoming a CNN anchor, this spunky young Capetonian is trained in drama, dance and singing since the age of four. As she climbs the ladder, looking good on and off air is equally important to her. LEGiT snuck a peek into her wardrobe and this is what she revealed.
Describe your personal style.
I’d say it’s quite classic and chic. Most of my wardrobe will still be hot in five years' time. Kim Kardashian is my absolute style icon. Say what you want about her but she knows how to dress for her body and achieve a sexy look while still looking sophisticated and classy.
What’s your number one tip for on-trend style?
Know what works for you, your body and personality. Style isn’t stylish without the confidence to go with it.
What’s your favourite occasion to dress up for?
I love getting dolled up for formal events and cocktail parties, when you can take more time than on a usual rushed weekday and really pamper yourself from head to toe.
What’s your number one summer 2012 essential?
Well, sun cream. I sound like a walking advert, but burnt skin and awful tan lines can make even the hottest outfit look tacky. In the clothing department I’d say a hot pair of cute high-waist shorts. They’re great especially for when you’re holidaying and you’ve been on the beach all day. You can just slip on some sexy heels and go have sundowners somewhere.
Who’s your favourite male celeb when it comes to style?
Gabriel Macht’s character Harvey Specter, in Suits. Never underestimate the power of the three-piece suit. Then, back in real life, I think Daniel Craig always looks like a class act. I suppose that body helps.
Who’s your favourite designer?
Chanel.
Wedge heels or stilettos?
Totally depends on the outfit because I love both. With what I’m wearing right now…wedges.
What is your most treasured fashion item?
A black vintage clutch bag that my mum gave me. When she was younger she used her entire week’s pay cheque to buy it. Special items like that are both gorgeous and have sentimental value.
Do you have an item in the back of your wardrobe that you’ll never wear?
I had many not too long ago, but finally gave them all away. No idea why I was holding onto them. Now, whenever I invest in some new wardrobe items, I like to do a quick scan of things that I can give away. Something in, something out, it keeps the wardrobe organised and also makes you feel good in a way that not even new clothes can.
What are your first-date wardrobe staples? Which items make a fantastic first impression?
With the first date you need to achieve that ‘I tried, but not too much’ look. The ironic thing is that it takes longer to achieve than most looks. I’d say a sexy pair of denims, razzed up with a gorgeous black top. Everyone looks good in black – it makes anything look sexy without even trying. And then of course, a hot pair of heels, which, even if the guy doesn’t notice, will turn your walk into a sexy strut.
