Every now and again a new group appears that changes the face of pop culture for the better. With their first single 'All For Me' already climbing up the charts, BlackByrd are set to entrench themselves in the hearts and minds of everyone who loves great, original and thought-provoking pop. Hot on the heels of signing a record deal with EMI Music, the dynamic trio is getting cosy with the charts while making sure that they look the part too. Made up of three dynamic young Capetonians, Tamsyn Maker, as one of the trio, may have qualified with a BCom degree under her belt, but it’s music that keeps this young accountant’s heart racing. LEGiT gives you the inside scoop on how she’s dressing for the part.
Describe your personal style.
My personal style is trendy, sexy and chic. I’m loving the boyfriend’s jacket, with a pair of fitted skinny denims, or high-waist shorts plus amazing heals or Chuck Taylors.
What’s your number one tip for on-trend style?
Firstly you need to feel comfortable, but don’t be afraid to be daring and get creative. Be colourful, accessorise! Hats, belts and bags are great for this spring.
What’s your favourite occasion to dress up for?
Any occasion or event that requires wearing an evening gown! Us girls love looking like princesses.
What’s your number one summer 2012 essential?
Personally, I would say body shimmer lotion. It always gives your skin that great extra glow in summer.
Who’s your favourite male celeb when it comes to style?
Singer, Steven Lee – his style is very fashion forward and trendy. I like a man who’s not afraid to add some colour.
Who’s your favourite designer?
Locally, we have so much talent, so to choose one is difficult as each designer brings a unique piece to your wardrobe! Gert-Johan Coetzee and Gavin Rajah have amazing talent. If an international designer could dress me it would be Donatella Versace or Coco Chanel.
Wedge heels or stilettos?
I love stilettos! Especially 9-inch ones! (LOL)
What is your most treasured fashion item?
It has to be my stilettos… it’s my favourite, black leather, a stunning red heel and leopard print base. If I had to lose it, I would definitely cry.
Do you have an item in the back of your wardrobe that you’ll never wear?
My over-sized bell-bottoms. Why would I want to hide my shoes under that heap of material?
What are your first-date wardrobe staples?
Not too much cleavage. It could send out the wrong message, so be tasteful. It depends on the weather and where we are going, so I would find out about the place in order that I don’t arrive under or overdressed. Imagine going to a fast food restaurant in R3 000 shoes!
Which items make a fantastic first impression?
Must have perfume! Smelling great is the first step to looking good! That and good nails! I wish there was nail polish that never cracked. Always have great nails, men notice it a lot. My guy friend told me this, so take the advice.
