Kristen Stewart gives a tough, strong portrayal that channels the original grim written fairytale.

A Disney fairy tale returns to its darker and more grim roots with Snow White and the Huntsman, a remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The movie, starring Twilight lead actress Kristen Stewart as Snow White, tells the tale of evil Queen Ravenna’s plot to have Snow White killed by a huntsman.  

The movie veers away from the brighter, cheerful style of fairy tale storytelling, to weave a darker and more intricate narrative of this classic story. 

Snow White is a petite princess no longer, as the role transforms her into an empowered, proactive woman who summons her strength in order to protect her life. The dwarfs are no longer the fluffy cute characters seen in the Disney classic and are instead replaced by gritty workmen who assist Snow White in her quest to save her life. 

Charlize Theron channels her cold, calculating side in her portrayal of the evil Queen Ravenna.

Stewart steps out of her role as Bella to play a much tougher, stronger role as Snow White, while Charlize Theron explores her evil side with her casting as the evil Queen Ravenna. Chris Hemsworth’s take on the Huntsman has been lauded as a performance to watch.

This highly anticipated film was released on 30 May 2012 and given the high praise received from critics, it is expected to explode onto the big screen with high viewership in its first week.
