Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa arrived with a bang last week as the hottest and most prominent designers from the African continent (and some from beyond) descended onto Melrose Arch in Johannesburg, in a fashion flurry to show off their latest designs.

The designers in this festival of catwalk colour hailed from more than 10 different countries as diverse as Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana. Going with the trends for this season, designers stretched the limits of colour and prints with their collections. Mozambican designer, Taibo Bacar combined deep, rich colours with paisley and African prints for a stunning range that hit all the season’s couture highlights.
Project Runway winner Anya Ayoung-Chee, who hails from Trinidad and Tobago, peppered her range with flowing watercolour prints in daring jumpsuits and mini dresses, while South African designer Gavin Rajah’s collection was a dazzling mix of dizzying metallics and regal paisley prints.

Our favourite part of the week? Easy! Superstar SA designer David Tlale, who partnered with LEGiT in the creation of his Van Der Tlale winter line, graced the runway again for this fashion week – and he brought a little LEGiT style back with him! The opening part of his show featured 12 LEGiT models, all showing off his new Van Der Tlale line!
That’s right, LEGiT crew – David is back and he’s bringing you another dose of the fabulously glam fashion you found with the first VDT range. Two of the models below are already bursting with fab LEGiT style – Refilwe Modiselle and Tshego Seakgoe both rocked the ramp in David’s designs.

The influences for this line are neon, metallics and Aztec prints, in the season’s hottest silhouettes. As we know, the essence of fashion design is in the details and David’s new VDT range is replete with intricate geometric patterns in black and gold, as well as tassels for a little femme flair.
Don’t forget about the footwear – neon platform heels and studded stilettos were the order of the day with this collection – what’s not to love? Multi-strand necklaces with an Aztec motif provided the perfect finishing touches, along with bold, big handbags in stencilled Aztec prints.
We can’t wait for the new range to go from the runway to a LEGiT store near you – we hope you’re as excited as we are!
