With the weather cooling, it's time to give those colour-block wedges one last look of longing before you pack them away. Winter is upon us and it's time to break out your boots – the tried and tested style for the colder season.
While traditionally, winter only offered two styles of boots; the knee-high rider boots or combat-style lace-ups, the variety is now astounding. You can find anything from peep-toe knee-high boots to heeled sneaker boots, in a wide range of colours and even in prints like floral or leopard print.
The number of options may be overwhelming – which style should you wear, and how? Here's a quick rundown of the varieties you'll come across, and how you could integrate them into your winter wardrobe.
By far, the most popular and versatile style of boots for this season is the ankle boot. These come in a great variety and can be worn with dresses, pants, skirts and shorts alike, making them the perfect go-everywhere style. Flat ankle boots, particularly with a slouchy style, are the perfect casual option for wearing over skinny jeans or pairing with shorts and tights.
The style is flattering because it draws attention to the smallest part of the leg, which emphasises the curvature of the leg and creates a smooth line. The style is even more dramatic when wearing heeled ankle boots, which will elongate the leg, especially when worn with a skirt or dress.
