Chances are that you keep an eye on the hottest looks on the runway for you, but what about him? Men’s fashion has grown exponentially in the last few years with more and more male designers pushing the envelope and recognising the potential for ready to wear ranges that can appeal to all men rather than just those willing to experiment.

The trend reports for men’s fashion this winter are far more defined and rigid than many of those for women. Although in recent years, the colour palette for men’s fashion has been opened up considerably, providing men’s fashion in colours like pastel green and hot pink, the fashion available for men is rarely as colourful as it is for women, or as varied. One of the items that your guy should have in his wardrobe this season is a bow tie. This old school English formal item has made a strong comeback into contemporary fashion, appearing in men’s runway collections all over the world – even paired with v-neck shirts or vests – and the style seems to be more whimsical than it is formal.

Traditionally, men’s winter coats have been made of lighter, more breathable material, or very heavy, warm fabrics, but this season is all about the in-between coat, made of textured fabrics in light layers to create a strong silhouette with just a hint of movement in the autumn wind. The longer length trench coat has made a steady appearance in runway and retail collections alike and it provides a great length for wearing over slacks or jeans. For a lighter layer, relaxed fit blazers are now a staple that can be worn in casual or more dressed up styles.
Brogues have been appropriated and brought into mainstream women’s fashion for a few years now but they remain a winter staple for men. This year, brogues are most effective in a suede texture and don’t stick to black – the colour variety is an essential part of this trend.

Crisp shirts are a timeless classic, but this year, casual is in for men. Long sleeved T-shirts, paired with a blazer or jackets, create the perfect solution for both work and play. And the winter colour he should be most open to trying? Designers suggest that mustard yellow and cherry red are the two colours all guys should have in their wardrobe this season.
